Research
My research is focused on the evolution of Neotropical bird communities and how these communities in turn modulate ecological and evolutionary processes in associated pathogen and parasite assemblages.
I have created separate pages detailing on-going research concerning phylogeography and community ecology and concerning my growing interest in pathogen and parasite ecology and surveillance, though perhaps the richest research will involve the intersection of these two themes.
Central to all research that I do is a commitment to specimen-based research. The vouchered specimen is the central clearinghouse from which my collaborators and I generate genetic, geo-spatial, morphometric, and demographic datasets as well as the source of ecto- and endo-parasite and pathogens, which are in turn archived using the museum voucher approach. To this end, a team of interns and assistants helps me manage a rapidly-growing specimen collection.
